Program Description

The Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) is a two-year professional program that depends on case-study methodology and students' active participation in courses. The program aims at creating a learning environment where students have the opportunity to develop and enhance knowledge and skills required for making decisions at managerial levels and hence accelerate their career development. The program offers courses that focus on integrating business applications and advance students' critical thinking and problem solving skills.  

 

Local/ International Partners

The EMBA program is offered in collaboration with IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Spain. Since its foundation in 1958, IESE’s focus has been on senior executive education and its emphasis on decision making and management. A proven track-record in delivering top level education programs makes IESE one of the most reputable business schools, ranked second in Business Education in Europe and fourth worldwide (FT 2007).

 

Who should attend/Target market

The EMBA program is designed for mid-career professionals (with a minimum of three years of professional experience) who are eager to acquire and develop their broad-based management skills in a practical and convenient format.

 

Program Outcomes

i.         Problem solving and decision making: Each student can demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills in analyzing global business cases and in making business decisions.

ii.       Strategic planning and value creation: Each student is able to engage in strategic planning that adds value to the company’s competitive position and its corporate social responsibility.

iii.      Integrating business functions: Each student is able to clearly and comprehensively integrate different functional areas of business, with special emphases on local and regional markets.

iv.     Leadership: Each student will be able to demonstrate effective leadership styles, teamwork and group dynamics required for effective management and leadership.

 

Faculty

NU faculty teaching in the EMBA program have all received their PhD degrees from the US or Europe, are active researchers and have been involved in private and/or public sector companies at executive and/or consultancy levels. IESE's faculty is considered among the best in the world, with PhDs from top U.S. schools and on-going research initiatives carried out world-wide, including many emerging economies. They offer a global perspective on the latest thought on management issues through real case studies and simulation exercises.

 

Curriculum

The EMBA is a 2-year/48 credit hour program. During the first year students must complete twelve required business core courses (24 credit hours total) that focus on functional areas of business; their interactions and dynamics within the organization; and the impact of internal and external factors on decision making. In the second year students must complete another twelve elective courses (24 credit hours total) covering at least four of the following business areas: accounting, business administration, economics, finance, management, marketing and operations management. Learning is primarily based on case studies, simulations and problem solving exercises; which enhance students’ knowledge and skills in their areas of specializations and their ability to tackle real life problems.
