Research at Nile University
Research is an integral part of Nile
University’s (NU) mission and strategic intent. NU is committed to conduct,
promote and nurture scientific research in areas of critical importance to the
economies of both Egypt and the region as a whole.
While NU faculty are engaged in a variety
of “bubble-up” initiatives, it was deemed necessary to launch the following
three institutional research centers:
- Center for Wireless
Intelligent Networks (WIN)
- Center for
Informatics Science (IS)
- Center for
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
The underlying intent of these centers is
to:
-
Define the areas of
focus of NU’s major initiatives and in that sense define NU’s research core
capability
-
Brand NU as a center
of expertise in the areas selected
-
Highlight Egypt’s
role as the region’s intellectual hub
-
Ensure linkage with
business, industry, and government
-
Embrace creativity
and entrepreneurship and encourage the development of intellectual property
(IP)
In line with the above thinking, the roles
of these centers is to develop and maintain the selected core competencies; to
conduct large-scale interdisciplinary research with national and regional
impact; to demonstrate the value of research and development in wealth
generation, both on the macro- and micro-economic levels; and to serve as a
catalyst for joint research with local and global partners with a keen eye on
attracting collaboration with and repatriation of expatriates.
In a nut-shell, NU Research Centers are
intended to lay the foundation for a research and development (R&D) culture in
the region. Furthermore, being a strong advocate of cultural and intellectual
diversity, NU will establish an advisory board for each center, made up of
leading stakeholders on the global level.
