The Search Committee for Nile University invites nominations,
applications,
and expressions of interest for the positions of Dean for the following schools:
• School of Engineering & Applied Sciences
• School of Information & Communication Technology
• School of Business
• Graduate School of Management of Technology with responsibility for the School
of Graduate Studies.
Nile University (NU) is a graduate university that offers programs leading to
Masters and PhD degrees, in addition to a strategic set of undergraduate
programs in selected areas. It is conceived to be a world-class research
university that carries out large-scale interdisciplinary research in
collaboration with industry and other universities and research establishments
in Egypt and abroad in targeted areas of critical impact on the national and
regional economies.
NU was established to be a leader in the advancement of higher education,
applied research, and technological development, acquisition and transfer. NU
serves the dual purpose of capacity building in targeted sectors and in leading
applied research in collaboration with the ICT community and other critical
industrial sectors in Egypt.
The University embraces a diversity of the student body and faculty as a key to
excellence in its operational environment. NU is currently planning to offer a
total of 27 programs phased over a 10-year period; 15 at the graduate level and
12 at the undergraduate level. These programs will focus on engineering
disciplines in ICT, Business Administration, Management of Technology,
Engineering and applied Sciences and Petroleum and Mining/Energy/.
The selected Deans, appointed by the President, will report directly to the
Provost and will serve as the chief academic officers and administrative
officers of the different Schools. The role of a dean is the academic officer
immediately responsible for the operation of the school, including budget,
personnel, curriculum, and planning matters. The dean works with the school's
departments/programs so that each program maintains high standards. As such, he
or she oversees development of curricula and selection of faculty.
Essential Functions
- Communicating frequently and effectively with the
school's faculty and staff
- Keeping department chairs/ Program Directors informed
about issues related to their programs and faculty
- Overseeing the process of hiring and evaluating faculty
and staff
- Promoting excellence in faculty teaching, service,
professional growth/development, and academic achievement
- Responding promptly to the needs of faculty, staff, and
students
- Initiating and managing collaborative opportunities
inside and outside NU
- Providing leadership for enhancing the visibility,
enrollment, and resources of the school-both on campus and off campus
- Giving special attention to all facets of fund-raising
- Developing and managing the budget, technical support,
and school services
- Leading faculty in the planning process for the school's
programs
- Recommending annual raises for school faculty and staff
Additional Responsibilities
- Gathering data and preparing detailed documents
- Teaching in the school, as time permits
- Conducting personal professional growth/development and
academic achievement, as time permits
- Performing other duties as assigned by the NU
administration
Desirable Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Understanding of budget, planning, assessment, and
personnel processes
- Ability to solicit funds for the school
- Ability to motivate the diverse workforce within a school
Qualifications
- Ph.D. or other earned doctorate in an academic area
tenurable within the school
- Administrative experience in an accredited college or
university
- Record of scholarly achievement
- Excellent communication skills
The Search Committee will begin to
review candidates in late August 2008 and continue until appointments are made.
